Some of you may remember that the Darke line used to announce suicides. Some patently enjoyable times came from these messages, and the ramifications of seeing a well known name evaporate into history. At least, that's how I remember it.

I'm pretty much sold on reinstating these announcements, but I'd like some discussion first. To elaborate, the Gods of the realm (not Demipowers, actual gods) would announce what they've done with the souls of those who commit suicide (or rebirth, or whatever the hell we call it now). Hiatuses would also be announced on the darke line, though by whom is still up in the air.

Yes, this means that thieves and raiders would have an easier time in life by watching who's last wandered out of the Shadowlands. I find this to be a good thing, as it may encourage folk to set up better defenses (yes, castle defenses are on the table for review), have others living in their now-ownerless castles, and the like.

Pros? Cons? Are there any other events that might be enjoyable to announce? Anyone vehemently opposed to such a thing?

Doesn't seem like such a bad thing to do.

Talking about the darke line, how about removing much of the chatter produced by the mobs in the laboratory, specifically the acolytes. We don't care overly much that they'll return or the master will prevail or all that. At times it has been annoyingly spammy.

I like the idea of those messages coming back.

The Demiruge also used to announce on the Darke line when Guild Mastery was taken by someone new. I liked those messages, too. These sorts of "important world events" being announced added a bit of flavour and active feeling to the mud. Like things were happening.

I like the idea of suicides and gm changing hands being announced, I would love to see the removal of the stupid nether darke message as well as those from slayer realm. As for hiatus msg, I'm torn about 50/50 on it mostly because I know that if it was announced and a newbie showed up, you can guess easily who it is. not sure if i like that.

The announcements of suicides and GM changes is pretty cool....but, like the pervious post said, the announcement of pet creations was kind of annoying and not really that usefull. Noone wants to be spammed by a Necro every 10minutes with 'I am alive!!', etc...
