It's top heavy among the people who are on all the time. The perception that most, or even a very large percentage of the MUD, is HM is wrong, I think.

Even if we made HM top 10% of MUD, things may not seem any different...that top 10% happens to comprise the people who are on the most.

Honestly I miss the old system where there was High-Mortal, Adept, Craftsman, Journeyman etc. High-Mortal definitely needs a higher level though. I do not understand the need for the system at all if it is just an "title" one gets once they achieve a certain level. If it offered skills/spells as a benefit of attainment I would be more inclined to support it. As stands its just an ego thing. I think certain skills/spells should be granted to players once they have reached a certain level. Ohh is that statement not going to cause outcries of unbalance and giving higher levels more stuff they shouldn't get.

Highmortal has been removed as a section on the who list. Highmorals remain highmortals, and all the trappings that come with that (read as: fancy new title setting capabilities, and a garishly colored line no one chats on).

Some of the old sorting flags will be reinstated. Birth date, play time, and login time will all be available flags at some point in the near future.

The reasons this was done were to provide a sense of solidarity among players. New players logging in and typing 'who' would frequently see themselves as a newbie, and one or two mortals, with 4 to 8 highmortals. This doesn't breed the sense that there's anything happening. The mud is top heavy, and this change in part masks that while we go through the horribly difficult (I assure you) process of rebalancing the mud in its entirety, and documenting everything we do and why. We're trying to create a cohesive whole from the many bits and pieces that have been haphazardly added over the years, and are thankful that all of you provide feedback and insight along the way.

If you have opinions on the changes to the who list in light of this new knowledge, voice them in this topic.

Translation:

"As it stands, it's just an ego thing. Therefore, it should be ego PLUS more power. Oh, now watch the complaints as my unbalancing idea is criticized for being unbalanced."

If you hadn't noticed, skills are level based already. You need to be level X to train a certain skill...

And oh wait... Spells are too!

Who list flags work. Syntax is just like it appears in the help file:

who -o:<flag>

Only the name, birth date, time played, and login time work. We will be updating the help file to reflect this.

Would removing HighMortal from rwho output also be desirable? I don't think we get many rwho requests, but highmortal exists on them if we do.
