All areas should be unique and special in some way, but areas targeted at the same level(s) should of course provide the same experience. I think that's what Sabu was getting at - that there should be more places to farm when there are more people on.

I happen to agree, but my agreement is based on my opinion that there should be more people and then area builders *cough*me*cough* would be happy to ramp up area coding. How often have people gone to the grounds recode? Not very, I imagine. How much feedback has there been from non-immortal players? Zero. So there's really no reason for more areas right now, though I'm still totally for random encounters...

Anyone want to spit out ideas for random world-map encounters?

I always thought random groups of nomads would be great. They could be of a random race, level, with random skillsets. Honestly, the possibilities are endless. Just look at any MMO (sorry for mentioning it), but there are just random things standing around. We could obviously give it rhyme or reason though, like randomly have a campsite, or a random dragon's nest, where there's an angry dragon with 5 or so baby dragons ready to blow fire up your ass.

I don't know how much of a priority this is, but I still think it's cool, and I do enjoy having the world map critters around again.

Also, the system is set up so it could support very complex occurances on the world map.

The critters you see right now have a different random chance of appearing based on terrain type, but you can also work in events, weather events, etc.

Predators and their prey shouldn't coexist on the same world map spot. If a rabbit or bird spawns where a wolf or cat is, the wolf or cat should kill it. If a wolf or cat spawns where a prey animal is (or wanders onto a spot with a prey animal), the prey animal should flee to another spot. Prey animals should never randomly wander onto a spot with a predator (prey rarely choose to approach predators).

Yes, this is vitally important. As cute as it is to see a wolf, a bunny and three birds having a tea party together, newbies will undoubtedly be confused and disoriented and may just leave the mud forever.

Not as confused as seeing a jackrabbit beating a beejesus out of a wolf and killing it.

I think it's important to remember that an outside 'room' isn't a room that's 10'x10'. If I were to GUESS on the size I would say they were probably 500m x 500m (uh.. 0.31 miles or 1,640 feet) or so at the minimum.

You have to consider that entire castles are built on them, towns, mountains, are some pretty extensive areas.

Of course it doesn't scale properly but I think that's the same reason that a rune doesn't trigger outside. The 'room' is simply too big to trap the entire thing.

Also the same reason (at least in my head) that you can't 'peer' on the world map.

It's totally possible that the wolf and rabbit are far apart. Or that the wolf is simply not hungry.

That said, I think it would be interesting if they DID occasionally fight.

If that's the way we're playing world map squares, players should not be close enough to each other for one to attack the other unless they agree to combat (WOW style) and approach each other. I mean, a third of a mile square is pretty hard to force someone into combat. And if you drop something on the world map, it shouldn't show up to someone who wanders by later (a knife doesn't exactly stand out in 500m X 500m area.

Yes, I'm just being a jerk.

Now implement characters having to urinate every few hours game time.

To emulate full realism players must now use the following commands:

inhale
exhale

Enjoy!

Or maybe not.

I agree. Making breathing involuntary robs me of choosing for my character. Maybe my character breathes more slowly. Or doesn't breathe at all, until he/she goes unconscious. Why should the system decide that for me?
