I don't know if I like this idea but it would at least be practical . Why not go away with special names all together and just have it be.
"A Fire rune is inscribed here" or "A Fire damage rune is inscribed here" for weapons and "A Fire protection rune is inscribed here" for armour. It does not have to be those exact words but it would alleviate the headaches from coming up with new names and also figuring out what rune does what.
